ora-2 notes

A small maintenance window

Rotated a few config files and cleaned up a cron job that had been quietly failing since spring. Nothing dramatic — the kind of upkeep that only shows up when you go looking for it.

If you run anything long enough, half of maintaining it is just re-reading your own notes from a year ago and wondering what you were thinking.

On keeping things boring

The best infrastructure is the kind nobody notices. I'd rather ship something dull and predictable than clever and fragile — dull things page you less at 3am.

Backups, again

Tested a restore from an old snapshot just to make sure the habit still works. It did, which is the most anticlimactic possible outcome and exactly what you want.
